🚗 Commute & Access

If you catch it at the right hours, Coyote Ridge is totally manageable. For those living north, it’s an easy drive. But if you’re coming from the city, traffic can turn it into a 45-minute each-way haul, which starts to test your patience. That’s really the only major tradeoff: a top-tier public course that’s just far enough to make you think twice on a Friday afternoon.

🏠 Clubhouse & Facilities

The clubhouse feels like a country club. Weddings are hosted here, the dining area looks like it was built for rehearsal dinners, and the bar and grill could pass for a resort. Don’t expect free coffee like at Woodbridge or Thorntree, but the amenities are solid and the vibe is upscale without being pretentious.

Practice setup is average but functional: a big putting green, a small chipping area, and about seven or eight mats on the range with some targets in the distance. The greens here are lightning fast, faster than anything I’ve played in DFW, even TPC Las Colinas. If you want a real test for putting touch, this is it.

⛳ The Course

The design is exceptional, especially the back nine. There’s water nearly everywhere like creeks, ponds, and sneaky hazards that show up right when you start feeling confident. The layout features elevation changes, undulating fairways, and strategic trees that frame some beautiful (and punishing) tee shots.

This course rewards patience and precision. Every shot demands a plan. A small miss can turn into a big number, but pure strikes are rewarded. If you want to see what you’re in for, Bryson DeChambeau played Coyote Ridge during his “Breaking X” series, a cool connection that adds a little extra buzz before you play.

🍻 Experience

Coyote Ridge absolutely delivers on premium public golf. The conditions, greens, and setting put it among the best public tracks in DFW. But…and it’s a big but…it’s also one of the more expensive and traffic-sensitive plays in the region if you live in the city. Pace of play was also very slow. I was luckily paired up with some Korean ladies that kept giving me snacks. Major highlight.

If you’re based nearby, it’s a no-brainer. If you’re coming from Dallas proper, this becomes more of a special-occasion course / something you play when you’ve got time, not when you’re sneaking out after work. For my money, Twin Creeks or even Tangle Ridge are better value and easier drives, even if Coyote is technically a step above them in course quality.

🗣️ Final Word

Coyote Ridge is premium public golf done right. Beautiful, challenging, and fast with resort-like facilities. It’s probably a better course than other KP ranked courses, but between the traffic, higher rates, and no free coffee, it fits best as a “play it when you can” destination for locals.
