Not a destination course. But if you live in Dallas and care more about quality golf than amenities, this is one of the most practical, playable, and repeatable tracks in the city.
📍 Location
Cedar Crest is one of the closest public tracks to central Dallas, just 10–15 minutes from downtown. That alone makes it tempting for weekday evenings or quick weekend tee times.
You drive in through industrial zones and rougher neighborhoods. Not a “golf escape,” but a weekday warrior’s setup.
⛳️ Layout / Course
An old-school muni with real movement, elevation changes, uphill par 3s, and doglegs that make you think. It’s not tricked out, but it’s not boring either. Trees are in play, and you’ll get punished if you’re wild off the tee. A few standout holes (like 10 and 17) elevate the experience.
The vibe is true muni-friendly enough, but not polished. That said, it has deep history (1927 PGA Championship) and a loyal local following.
🔥 Experience
This is where things dip. You can’t book as a single online. You’ll need to call and even then it’s hit or miss. The clubhouse is basic, bordering on rundown.
Cedar Crest has one of the better public practice setups in the area. Large putting green, dedicated chipping area, and a grass range. Great for solo grinding.
Final Word
Cedar Crest is for locals and grinders. It’s not a showpiece, but it’s a historic layout with easy access, solid practice, and sneaky charm if you catch it on the right day. Don’t bring guests. Do bring a short game.
