DeSoto, TX | Booked via: GolfNow | Price paid: $40 (Weekend Hot Deal) |~ 20 min from Downtown Dallas
Thorntree is chaos and comfort all at once. This was once an exclusive private club. The public can now book it easily online.
Pro: It’s south of Dallas.
Con: …also south of Dallas 😅
But if you want to play, you can book same-day on GolfNow, single or foursome. Easy access, no nonsense.
It’s a straight shot south from Dallas. Easy to get to in ~20 minutes, for me, beats fighting to get north.
Layout? Fun, quirky, and a little tight in spots. Great mix of holes, elevation changes, and just enough wildness to keep you guessing. You will hit a house if your swing’s on vacation.
Practice area is solid, putting/chipping/big range. This is one of the only places with a Trackman.
And the kicker? Free coffee. Underrated perk. If you’re south or want a break from the crowded city tracks, this is a great move. Just bring extra balls and maybe a prayer.
Normally, it moves pretty quick. Today was not one of those days. I’d recommend taking one of the first tee times.
Overall, the bones are great, and the layout is fun. Greens and fairways aren’t pristine, but they’re playable. You’ll get a little bit of everything: tree-lined fairways, open bombs, water hazards, and tight doglegs. Some houses are very much in play if you’re not on your game.
Proximity to downtown. accessibility for a single, and limited traffic to the location boost its score. If I’m really looking for a prime weekend spot, it’s probably Grapevine, Buffalo Creek, or Twin Creeks (Peaks 😉).
